Mandatory Schedule or Lax?

Typicallly, I schedule our class the night before. Occassionally things happen and we don't finish school, and in vary rare cases we don't have school that day at all.

In Texas, we have little rules. School must be taught in a 'bona fide' manner, but rather you teach school at a set hour, or rather you 'unschool' is all up to you.

In my household, we have school much like they would at public school, however, we don't realy have a set time. I pick the curriculum for the day based on our online school program and add any additional subjects and lessons, and print out our assignment schedule.

Sometimes, like today, we have interuptions and school isn't finished. Usually we carry on what was incomplete from today to the following day, or to the next day we study that subject again.

Today, however was spelling test day, and also a little unfinished studying of the multiplication tables. It's a little difficult to make up the spelling test on Monday, since we introduce the new spelling unit on that day, and I don't like to teach school on the weekend. Since the spelling test is on paper, and we had a 'word wall' of the spelling words, we took our test with us. I had my daughter take the spelling words off of our word wall and bring a notebook and pencil so that we could take the test when we had to wait in the truck for awhile on our emergency task. Not only did she Ace the test, but we also had time to complete the multiplication worksheet and had a fun study time together!

One of the greatest aspects of homeschooling, is it doesn't even have to be at home!!

Awesome.
